A running index of games I recommend to friends, games I still want to try, and assorted good stuff around games.
games I like #
The ones I keep coming back to. If you ask me for a recommendation, it's probably on this list.
- Pharaoh — egyptian city builder, still holds up
- Warcraft III — the peak of RTS, many modern genres were invented in the custom map scene of Starcraft and perfected in Warcraft III, for example Dota, Tower Defense or AOS-style games.
- Heroes of Might and Magic III — turn-based strategy perfection
- vanilla World of Warcraft — nothing has matched the feeling since
- Counter-Strike: Source — the only cs that I played a lot as a kid
- Command & Conquer: Generals — zero hour is a must
- Grim Fandango — best adventure game ever made, fight me
- Toonstruck — weird 90s point-and-click cartoon adventure game
- Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars — my first adventure game, never was able to beat it as a kid
- Minecraft — probably the "ultimate" game, contains just about everything you can imagine if you go deeper
- Northgard — compact viking RTS, great for an evening
- Frostpunk — bleak survival city builder, brutal and beautiful
- Darkstone — diablo-like from 1999, very underrated, iconic graphics
